Jet Set Willy 2 (BBC Micro) - My friend had this on his Spectrum as a kid and we used to love it. My family had a BBC Micro so I got it on there
Rollcage (PlayStation) - saw it running in a game shop on a big TV and thought it looked awesome. Still don't understand why it wasn't more popular!
Bloody Roar (PlayStation) - in a game shop again. The guy playing it did a special move with Long where he repeatedly punched his opponent and knocked him out of the ring. I had to buy the game to learn that move.
Crazy Taxi (Dreamcast) - I saw it on TV and was so impressed, it got me to buy a Dreamcast to play it!
And one that surprisingly didn't impress me at the time :
Soul Calibur (Dreamcast) saw this running in a shop but it just didn't look that special - unlike say DOA2 (also on Dreamcast). Now it's one of my favorite games ever and I think it looks amazing. I feel it has a more subtle beauty - maybe not so "in-your-face" as in many games. Or maybe... I was just an fool who couldn't appreciate a good thing!
Long story short, I didn't play games much at the time, and I used to go out of town with a friend's band when they played shows. We stayed at some guy's house and he had the 360 so I ended up playing Oblivion for several hours and was instantly hooked.
I went right out and bought a 360 with Oblivion that month!
If I was an adult with my own money I would have bought it myself...
But for me it was seeing Mario 64 as a kid running at Toys R Us. It was the first 3D platformer I saw and I just couldn't wrap my brain around controlling a character in 3D. Not to mention seeing the N64 controller for the first time was like seeing alien technology.
I was always a Sega kid growing up, but seeing that game running at the store I begged every adult I knew to get it for me.
milo I had a similar experience like that - I had my Playstation for a couple of years and then a friend brought his N64 over to my place blew me away with Mario 64. It looked amazing at the time especially just how solid the graphics looked compared to the Playstation. It was very impressive! But it would have meant buying a new system so I stuck with my Playstation. It was the right move really in terms of game choice. He showed me some other games he had on N64 including one of the Rare 3D platformers : Banjo Kazooie but Mario 64 was the one game that was super impressive to me at the time
I first saw KOF 99 in the arcades as a teenager. I only recognized Terry from Fatal Fury , which I saw way earlier, as a little kid.
So, I bought KOF games when I could afford them. Needless to say seeing Samurai Shodown as a little kid was another lasting impression.
If we ever ended up in a pizza place with an arcade as a kid, naturally I'd beg my mom for a couple quarters so I could play Metal Slug. One time, the Neo Geo machine had SS4 in it and I was magnetized by the huge character graphics. I had 2 quarters, so I used one on Metal Slug and the other on SS4 and very quickly got my butt kicked. I kinda regretted wasting my quarter on it, but I sat and watched the attract mode for a long while after.
2 brothers fiends had a N64 with Mario 64 and Waverace 64 at launch. A few months later they went for a PlayStation and sold N64 with Mario to me! A few years later I saw a GameCube with Rogue Leader displaying in a video games shop. I was blown away with the graphics. I bought the system some time later.

tuxedomarty: So wait, they already gave a stand alone physical release to Final Vendetta, but now they are releasing it along with Xenocrisis and Battle Axe on a single game card when I already own one of these three titles on a stand alone game card??

tuxedomarty: I got 1st in the second race too now, and I have been trying tor HOURS now to get first in the third race (Greece was it?) and I can't do it! I can't get any higher than second! Even studying the playthrough World of Longplays uploaded didn't help!

tuxedomarty: I finally got 1st in a race on Thrash Rally. This might be one of the most frustrating racing games ever seeing as you are not ranked by how many cars you are ahead of but how quickly you finish a race.

tuxedomarty: I didn't bring my Switch there because I don't feel safe bringing it there, instead I brought the barely functioning iPad which needs to be replaced. But I digress.

Riko: Get well soon Marty - Hope you still had access to your Switch while in hospital!
Feb 7, 2024 17:39:58 GMT
tuxedomarty: They kept me there longer than I needed to be (12 hours) doing the same tests and asking the same questions over and over again to the point that I got annoyed. I just wanted to get out of there as quickly as I could and wanted to relax when I got home.

pimsbury: Sorry to hear this Marty, I hope all will be well and it's nothing serious!

Feb 6, 2024 18:27:03 GMT
tuxedomarty: I am in the hospital again as I type this and I am told that I will need to stay for at least another 24 hours because of what they found in my blood work.
Feb 6, 2024 8:59:33 GMT
boogiepop: Thanks! I sure am too. ><

boogiepop: This weekend I had the wonderful experience of losing my wallet on the subway. Thankfully, some kind soul gave it to the police, so, in the end, I only lost a bit of time and access to my credit card since I immediately cancelled it.
