Thinking to myself:
why would I spam the MY WORK section? and after suggesting this I though. . . there is so little information about HOW to make a mancave? or real ideas on a budget? Specially from LATAM so this is my attempt to do exactly that from a poor designer perspective.
Here I will post ideas about my gameroom which is located in the outskirts of Bogotá (Colombia). Will be a little random (Photoshop is not the only way to visualize/ see things and the mind works in mysterious ways) also a journey in keeping a diary in english about my work. Is a full renovation on some space that was left by my late auncle, is not much but is all mine and money as usual is a constrain.
Reading my own comments and thoughts will help, before even laying my first brick.

-----MANIFESTO-------
-------------------------
What I DO NOT WANT:
1. Crammy videogames sh*t.
Everything stacked in IKEA shelves. First, you can´t find IKEA stuff in my country. Second, those things are awfully made it, they warp, bend and are a potential disaster just waiting to happen. Third: I don´t think I have enough games to fill walls of stuff I usually don´t use, so I collect games that I play. Besides I have another interests like collecting music in other formats, I play guitar, I do sports as well, etc . . . So part of it is blend the whole thing in a cohesive and coherent way. So I´ll try to avoid mindless stacking as much as possible.
2. Cables laying around on the floor.
You get old, you become organized. Is a sad fact of life. . . so managing connections is a priority. I easily have 14 consoles, 6 old CRTS (2 34" wega, 1 38" wega, 2 21" trinis, 1 34" trini converted to VGA to play Neo Geo) games and memorabilia. Besides of other crap important for me, like family pics, my own work, etc. . . so managing space and cables is a must.
3. Convenience over design.
I´ll try to make decisions based on DESIGN rather than CONVENIENCE. Smart design is always convenient. Probably english is getting on the way of what I am trying to convey. . . so, I´ll try to be patient and consistant.
4. No PS5/XBOXONE or newer stuff.
Retrogamer forever ! So my last console was PS4. I´m not planning in buying anything else besides that. I still have my PS3 with tetris, street fighter IV and Mod Nation Racers. I hardly play anything besides Neo geo, nes and Snes and the things in between. I watch stranger things in my big old CRT ! . . . Very few people contact me for playing FIFA and I gave up learning. So, winning eleven for me in ps2 is HEAVEN !
5. No cringy Neon.
I´m not twelve. . . and the nineties are LONG GONE.
6. Not plugging/unplugging stuff !
Everything available, ready to play. people Who owns more than 3 consoles knows the pain in the arse of boxing stuff away or "de-spaghetting" cables. So. . . no more pain ! I also own more than 1 neo geo. . . and the Component nighmarish connections, plus DVDRW´s, DVD-VHS combos, and a Mini Disc player, turntable, amp for the guitar and be able to stream . . . and so on. So. . . this is the "you shall not kill" part of the manifesto. Sweet delicious problems ! :-)
7. Be happy.
Will be my happy place, and quoting Dante: “The heavens call to you, and circle about you, displaying to you their eternal splendors, and your eye gazes only to earth.” Is going to be thought but interesting journey.

COOL IDEAS WORTH CHECKING:
(Not my videos!)

-> Electrical management:
I like how he manages the whole electrical cable system, also reminds me of a dock for my PS3/PS4. Cables are managed but still visible. I don´t have that amount of consoles or games. . . but still a big collection. The pantry rackets made it look cheap and the tags on the switchers are awful and uneven arial . . . but still a great and smart way to organize stuff.

1st random post: Celebrating SNK history !
****************************************************
Interchangeable plates with magnets attached to a wall, in order to celebrate some of the 30something-ish years of SNK. Besides I have a thing with old 90´s logos. They were the sh*t ! and some many franchises. . . so needs to be interchangeable. . .
Blame in on the boogie ! . . . and I always liked this minigame !

2nd random post: All ideas start with a doodle.
**************************************************
Read number 6 ! this is like the heart of all the operation.
Took me sometime to figure it out a lay out that allows me to connect everything at the same time. Because I am a bonafide nerd, I also made a poster of how should everything will be connected. Checking videos from AVGN nerd and more people who owns very large collections they have very weird ways to manage their switches which are the bastard son of necessity and randonmess. I have the delightfull opportunity of starting backwards, because I have almost everything, so is now time to put my head to work and paraphrasing that guy in a yellow tan "from the power of 20 years of experience in design. . . I HAVE THE POWER" I come with the idea of making a visual guide to connect everything. Which also comes with their own problems. What if somebody else, wants to play a different console that I own at the same time? Meaning: I own 5 CRTS, she wants to play SMB3 and I want to kill some Morden Soldiers? Should I eat mushrooms with her or bite some lead instead? bros before hoes, man ! So, that adds another layer of complexity to the conections ! (Sweet problems :-). As in any design there are limits. I cannot play the same console on a different game. Let´s say SMB3 and DOUBLE DRAGON II. Not happening. that means I need 2 of everything which will rise the costs of finding a second console in almost everything. So no can do. No space, not smart, too expensive. However, I do plan to own 2 gamecubes (Mario Kart double dash ? anyone?), 2 fat PS2´s (Time crisis 1 and 2) and eventually 2 PS3 because I am a fan of shooting galleries which are a blast with company and everyone playing in their own CRT. That is why I almost break my spine with 3 giant Sony WEGAS and invited some beers with the few brave souls that help me through the hole ordeal.
back to my original problem:
How to connect and play 2 consoles in 3 TV´S in any given time?
I own a couple of CE LABS switchers (1 in x 8 out affordable, own power and easily added to the back of a mysterious piece of furniture who hasn´t been invented yet !) another switchers which do the opposite (8 in x 1 out) and a miracle switch (2 in x 1 out) In order to connect 14 consoles in glorious RCA. Same logic applies to component with some more tweaks, HDMI only in PS3 and PS4 and VGA .
Here are the first sketch for RCA. Is muddy, and only make sense to me. But I Think is gonna do the trick. . .
The semi final version ! This is important because will allow me to think how all my electronics will interact and figure it out a budget in cabling/furniture/space and final lay-out. Besides will make a crazy good poster (And a useful one!)
I add a extra switcher, because . . . I do play competitively with my friends many games like contra, super c, metal slug. They bring their own consoles and power cables so I need some extra space without haggling much with cabling. At this point I have to worry about signal degradation, hence I´m getting closer to finish this part of the setup, by not adding anymore stuff AND allowing some future use too, plus recording in VHS/BETAMAX and capture things. I also removed the second gamecube. I didn´t know how expensive a broadband adapter for gamecube is ! so. . . is not a priority anymore. Maybe in the future.
How to read the schematics:
1. From bottom to top
2. All consoles will always send video to 2 locations.
3. 2 PS" for time crisis 2 and 3 (yes I do have 2 guns, two games and two consoles)
4. Greek letters in ARIAL are TVS and switchers with buttons (8 out x 1 in), PS3 for racing/football/tetris games
5. Regular letters in BODONI are switchers (8 in x 1 out, 2 in x 1 out) Everytime you press a button (number in orange/blue) The signal only pass through said number.
6. alpha and beta are switchers (8 out x 1 in) The number 2 in alpha is a just crossed connection, to ensure the each side will be connected.
How does it works?
Let´s say you want to play SNES and NES at the same time !
YOU PRESS
NES ON ALPHA -> A1 // Your NES signal is on VIDEO 1, ALPHA
SNES ON BETA-> D3 - C2 (Cero means no press, that blocks all signal) // Your SNES signal is in VIDEO 1, BETA
Stay tuned !
