The Graphic Novel/Manga/Comic Thread. Use this thread to tell us what book you are reading now or what your favourite stories are.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I made a conscious effort to get into graphic novels about 3 years ago and now I am pretty much read one a month. I will try any genre although there is definitely something about the format that makes it very well suited to superhero stories. A couple of of my favourite books so far are X-Men books - although I try to avoid anything I might have already seen in a film
I'll talk about my favourite graphic novels/comics in a future post since all my books are packed up right now (house move) and would be good to share some photos of them
Here is the book I have just finished :
This was my first Japanese book (translated into English) and I did start reading it the wrong way round! (for anyone who doesn't know you have to read Japanese books from the back to the front and from right to left on the page) It's a book of horror stories by Japanese horror manga author/artist Junji Ito
My favourite stories were - Millions Alone, The Man Inside The Chair, The Licking Woman, Venus in the Blind Spot (the cover story) and best of all The Enigma of Amigara Fault
Here's a photo of "The Enigma of Amigara Fault" - that won't spoil what happens. It's so good tho! (in an horror type way)
On the negative side only the Fault story genuinely scared me, but the rest were still interesting and if not always scary, most were surprising or really inventive in that typical Japanese kind-of-way.
