This is the draft version. Some of the wording maybe clumsy (Let me know) and some of the dates may still be wrong (I need to check). I'll also ask Murikov to tidy up the layout/design for the final version (thanks Murikov!) Please comment to correct anything and to answer to the queries in italics. Thank you

Neo Geo Forever is the new home for the community from the legendary NeoGeoForLife website (of which now only the popular Facebook group still exists). The site went down in early 2020, initially due to technical issues but sadly never came back online. No one yet knows the exact reason for this but most likely it had just come to a natural end.

NeoGeoForLife (or NG4L for short), started life in 2001 as the forum linked to Kazuya's NeoGeo Game Review and FAQs website. At this time the forum was run on Proboards

The website in 2001. Kazuya is Stuart Reynolds, the creator of the original site and the author of many of the excellent reviews on neogeoforlife.com

2006. The site is now called neogeoforlife.com and has a new design for both the site and forums

NeoGeoForLife.com in 2017 with the latest and final website design by Shiny

By 2007 the forum and review site were all integrated into a single website (seen above) at neogeoforlife.com. NeoGeoForLife went through a few design changes over the years. This last one is my personal favourite and was designed by NG4L member Shiny (Did Shiny do all the designs? I will ask him)

Over time the site built up an excellent resource of Neo Geo game reviews, magazine and manual scans and became a well visited and respected website for all things Neo Geo. The biggest draw though was the excellent forum which was home to a large and friendly community of Neo Geo owners and enthusiasts. You knew if you signed up there, you would receive a warm welcome and could ask for knowledgeable advice.

Now it's 2021 and NG4L has sadly gone but the original NeoGeoForLife Proboards forum site still exists. If you visit there, you can see us meeting in late 2020 to discuss the genesis of this site. And so.... neogeoforever.com was born - the NG4L community lives on and we still have some of the members from the early Proboard days here too. The history of this new site is yet to be written but let's hope it will be as rich and deep as our illustrious forebear - neogeoforlife.com. A big thank you to Kazuya/Stu for creating it.

By the way, from looking up at the WayBackMachine I've seen that the site was still running in January 2020. The latest post I could find made by somebody was from 04. January 2020.

As for the design and formatting, I think it's already pretty good, especially if it remains a sticky post here on the Proboards forum. Or had you rather in mind to add any additional graphics, borders or something else?

On the other hand, if we should decide on a later stage to create a homepage on top of the forum, we could of course discuss to adjust this content to the page layout. What do you think?

Thanks very much guys and good spot Murikov! I will change the date to early 2020. I couldn't get those pages on Wayback to display before.

I'm pleased the layout looks ok, I just never know what looks good or not. So it's always useful to ask someone with an artistic eye.

I'll probably keep it as a forum post for now maybe as a sticky in this section or the welcome section. But definitely in future we could add it as an option to the homepage if. I think there's going to be a lot of things that could be on the forums or as a "site-item". I guess we will have to decide what goes where at the time

Looks good to me too RiKo. I think it's a great idea to include some NGFL history.

I like the idea of a home page at some point in the future. You could have links to the forum, review section, download section, NGFL history etc.

To me it seems it would be best suited as a pinned thread in the New Users Welcome Section (along with the site rules when those get written) . Do you guys agree? or think it should be somewhere else?

I agree. The new users part of the forum seems like the best place to have the site history and rules threads.

I think that the "Site History " should be under the "Welcome to Neo Geo Forever" section under it's ownn locked section/thread.

This way it is easy to find for people. I don't think it should be buried in the "Introduce yourself" section.

Just my own opinion.

2D - Thanks for the idea. I will give that some thought. My initial thought is that I like that it would be more visible there but I also worry about pushing the main discussion sections further down the screen and having too many sections in general. (just to keep the forum focused) I think the ideal situation - is when we have a home page - would be too have it as a option/button on there. But that's one for the future. It could also go on the top menu bar on here too of course.

Good idea. I've seen that kind of thing at other forums. I can remember some people at NeoGeoForLife needing help with that.

I think it's also worth adding info about switching on email notifications for private messages. Many people who join might not be aware of that.

I might work it into the site history but not sure yet. Now I know how to make custom pages I can make the site history page properly in HTML, hopefully with a better design. We are planning to add the site history to the menu system eventually.
