So being that I have been on a big SamSho binge from finally being able to play SamSho 2019, I have been revisiting the series’ previous installments on the Neo Geo Collection for the Switch and the NG Mini. I did some experimenting earlier today based on various observations in the past and I noticed in AES mode, when I have the region set to either US or japanese, the blood is completely censored in all versions, including the japanese, and when I switch the region to Japan on a UniBios in console mode on MAME, it just loads the game up as if it were the english version despite showing the “Warning: This game is for use in Japan only” disclaimer like it usually does when you load a Neo game with the region set in Japan. I need to check the version on the Nakoruru LE of the mini I have again, because I could have sworn it wasn’t censored and it had the “No Contest” moves intact. Because when I set an emulator to console mode and the region to Japan, despite it showing the aforementioned disclaimer at the beginning, the first thing you see upon pressing start is the english title screen, and english is set as the default option even though I have the region of the console set to Japan, and it also censors the blood and it never triggers the “No Contest” moves no matter how quickly I finish a fight or how I hit the opponent when they are on their last bit of health. And even when I switched the language back to japanese when I played in console mode with the region set to Japan, it still is exactly the same as it is when you play the game with the english language setting or when the region is set to USA. This is really weird. I don’t get it. I tried two different emulators too. I tried MAME, using the UniBios setting, and I tried WinKawaks, and it was the same results for both of them. Hunh. Don’t know what that’s about…
I tried doing a Google search about this to see if I could find out any more information on the differences between AES mode and MVS mode, but couldn’t find anything.
