With having been so infatuated with Shin Megami Tensei over the past couple of months, it has drew an interest in adventure games that take place from the first person view as of recently. Only one of the three games in the series I have played so far are in the first person view, which is the 1987 original.
The version I have been playing though is the 1995 remake for the Super Famicom, which is part of the 2 in 1 package "Kyūyaku Megami Tensei", or "Megami Tensei: Old Testament", which I have been playing off a reproduction cart of a fan translation seeing as the game never got an official english language release.
As far as other adventure games in the first person view, the only one of this kind I know off the top of my head that I have played is "Shining in the Darkness" on the SEGA Genesis, which is also the first game in the "Shining" series of games, and like many JRPGs I tried, this is one I never finished.
But if you want to count these, there is also the ICOM adventure trilogy on the NES consisting of Shadowgate, Deja Vu and Uninvited, which I HAVE beaten two of those three. But those play differently than the games above. And they are also significantly MUCH shorter as well. You can beat those in under an hour if you know them well enough.
And then there are also older PC games from the 1980's such as the Wizardry series, or certain AD&D games like Pool of Radiance for example, which I have not played, but they look a lot more complicated and less straight forward than those:
And I know games like this had a big influence on many if not all of the first 5 games I mentioned in this thread already, and several others to follow such as Dungeon Master, or AD&D Eye of the Beholder, both on the SNES.
Nowadays an adventure game of this type seems to be uncommon. There have been a few over the last 10 years or so, like The Dark Spire on the Nintendo DS, which was published by Shin Megami Tensei creator ATLUS, and most recently, Labyrinth of Refrain.
But because so many of these games are either too confusing or too complicated for me to figure out, I haven't spent time with them that much other than the first 4 games, which were easy to pick up and adjust to. Games like Pool of Radiance, Wizardry, Dungeon Master or Eye of the Beholder seem a lot more complicated than those. So is anyone here into any games like this?
