Whoop! I've finally fixed my Monster Joystick that I posted about in this thread recently
The stick was 2.9cm above the top plate It needed to be 2.3- 2.4 cm (optimum height for that Sanwa stick) and this made it feel "wrong". It felt like I had to move the stick too far to register somehow
This is the fix : (anyone can do this because I am a complete novice at fixing stuff). You can see in the photo below that I added 2 plastic spacer plates and some longer bolts to lower the joystick by 5mm. So now it's an optimum 2.4cm height
Here's what I did in detail in case anyone wants to do the same :
- Bought 4 x longer bolts (3cm long M5 carriage/coach bolts)
- Filed the square holes in the top plate to fit the new bolts (I think the original bolts were non-standard)
- Added 2 x 2mm plastic joystick spacers from here. It actually worked out the spacers and the new bolts brought the stick down by 5mm which was perfect.
Here what it looks like now :

I've tested it on Rainbow Islands - my current arcade platform game of choice - and it plays very well now The bolts on the surface of the top plate still don't cause any problems. Being extra picky the Sanwa buttons are a little too sensitive for my taste (you barely have to touch them for them to register) but hey the stick is good enough now
Also, my understanding is that Seimitsu buttons are a little less sensitive. You might want to give them a try if you get tired of the Sanwa's being over sensitive.
