As Boogie correctly pointed out the OSSC (Open Source Scan Converter) is a rather naked looking device based on Open Source technology that multiplies classic analog signals (from inputs like SCART, Component and VGA) proportionally correct up to HD resolutions on modern TVs.

The thing with modern TVs is that image quality of retro consoles looks really shite when using generic adapters or if you directly hook them up on the TV. Using a device like a OSSC makes it probably a million times better. It also has some settings like enabling scanlines or the number of multiplying lines.

But from what I heard on the internet it seems that genuine CRT TVs still offer the best image quality on retro consoles. A device like OSSC is especially useful and a good compromise if you don't want to own another TV set in your household.

The mentioned Framemeister / XRGB-mini on the other hand is a proper upcsaler with a ton of settings. It is a way more expensive device than the OSSC, but from a technical standpoint it is way more elaborate and also offers better image quality with proper upscaling.

I first tried the Framemeister as well, but I noticed that there is an input lag on the Neo Geo, especially noticeable on fighting games or fast games like Windjammers. This bothered me so much that I switched to the OSSC, which has a slightly worse image quality and less settings, but zero input lag. I guess that's a fair compromise.

Tell you what, '95 is actually a hidden gem in the KoF franchise which I only started appreciating two years ago or so. It's not only the presentation or music, but also the wonky and hilarious (and partly broken) controls scheme from the '94 era that makes it so fun. An underrated entry in the series!

You are actually right about the OSSC, it indeed does not work on certain TV models. There is actually a more or less up to date list of the TVs that are compatible:

Honestly, if it wasn't for that slight input lag, I also would prefer the Framemeister over the OSSC, and it's definitely the next best solution after that. As far as I know, it's considered the Rolls Royce among the upscalers, and it's also noticeable on the meanwhile crazy pricetag (since they aren't produced anymore)!

I think it was the Japanese version of Samurai Spirits which I got on a Swiss retro forum for a about CHF 15 ~ USD 15 or so. Back then I couldn't imagine how crazy the prices would develop a few years later!

But I still hold the Samurai Shodown series in high regard, even though I prefer Last Blade after all. I think the original quadrilogy aged very well from a modern standpoint!

Murikov, I always remember you as the ‘point and click guy’ in Neo Geo land. It was very funny and surprising to meet someone who shared the experiences of a niche genre. Do you still play those games?

Yes, NGFL was the time I was playing Deponia. Finished all of the installments and I’m relieved I’m not the only one who didn’t enjoy the last one! It was a unnecessary chapter in the whole series. Wow, I can’t believe it, a fellow Wadjet Eye fan
They have been my favorite point ‘n click developer for a long time now and this month I will play and finish their last game, Unavowed.
Played their games from old to new, beginning with the Blackwell series offcourse. Felt in love with the story telling, voices and pixel art. Primordia is decent, Gemini Rue is good, Technobabylon and Resonance are instant-classics!! Can’t wait to play more from them.

It’s nice to see more point ‘n click adventures getting released on other platforms, like Playstation and Xbox, although the small audience. Recently I even saw Memoria, a seven year old game, got released on PS4.

The sequel of Technobabylon doesn’t appeal to me. In 3D it’s another kind of beast. The follow up of Beneath a Steel Sky, Beyond a Steel Sky, is a similar situation/project. Birthright has status ‘on hold’ according to adventuregamers.com. Maybe there are some development issues right now.

Strangeland has been announced some time ago and like Primordia, the artwork looks really special. The release is scheduled for Q1-2021. I will not buy it at release, but I’m looking forward to play it when the time and price is right.

It’s a bloody shame Daedelic doesn’t produce point ‘n click adventures anymore
After LucasArts, I thought they were the right party to take over the genre for a long time. Their adventures were very well made and in most cases original. At the end of 2019, I played first Satinav and right after that Memoria, to be able to follow the story properly.
Both are decent, the score I gave for Satinav was 7,5 and Memoria earned a 7,0.

Better games I recommend are Silence (Daedelic) and The Journey Down (SkyGoblin, kickstarter) for PC.
