Our new Game of the Month for October is.... SNK beat-em-up Sengoku 2 for the Neo Geo

Give it a play and tell us what you think - and also, how you think it compares to the other Neo Geo beat-em-ups?

An evil warlord is intent on conquering the world, this time by the use of time travel to conquer every known important event in history. The two protagonists from the previous game, Claude Yamamoto and Jack Stone are joined by three allies (Mike, Crow and Kirimaru) and sent by priestess Princess Miko from the past, to battle the warlord's forces to restore the world's ages and ensure the warlord's conquest never succeeds.

Oh yeah, my favorite game in series. Imho it's decent enough as beatemup (not as sublime in mechanics as Sengoku 3, but gives you needed tools to have fun and fight those demons, and it's not as clunky as first game), plus audiovisuals are great. It's pretty epic, too! The opening just pumps you up for action, and the whole time travel stuff is exciting. And yes, cutting enemies here feels satisfying indeed.

The only downside I can think of is that some portions are perhaps more lengthy than needed. Also, to think more about things, various character souls you play as could have a bit different balance maybe as I remember not using them equally.

Sengoku 2 is my favorite beat-em-up on the Neo Geo. I think it really builds and improves on the first game. If you are a fairly casual beat-em-up player (like me!) and appreciate a lot of variety and detailed well-animated graphics + a some weirdness thrown in - then this is the game for you!

I also really like, how after some fights - your opponents' body parts litter the ground, and you can even see heads go flying if you look closely. I wish they had made this aspect of it a bit more obvious. It would have made it even more fun!

donutman: The only drawback I see to NGCD is the optical drive. The load times are a thing, but imho if you are getting a old CD based console you should expect that. My main issue would be that optical drives fail, which is why i mentioned the SD loader Sept 20, 2024 19:42:23 GMT
