I originally heard about the Neo through my older cousins, and was blown away when I saw one that my dad's friend had. I became a huge fan of Fatal Fury and Samurai Shodown and I would buy ports on the Genesis as that's all I had haha. Eventually, I was able to buy my first SNK system, the NGPC in like 1999 which I still own. Unfortunately right after I bought it though, my local Toys R Us stopped carrying the games... I was devastated. Still one of my all time favorite systems though! I mostly played MVS games through emulation (Neorage X and Kawaks...Kaillera anyone
) until I saved up money from doing yardwork to buy a Neogeo CD online. I loved it, but eventually upgraded to the MVS, and got my engineer buddy to consolize it, which is what I have now! Thanks for the background story bro! 
I still think that some of the Genesis ports aren't really bad at all! On the front page in the news section for videos, Riko posted a superb comparison video which shows some examples. And I'm not unimpressed!
And I can only relate very well to your personal Neo Geo impressions, especially what you said about Neorage X and Kawaks. So good times indeed! 
You seem to have taken a good path indeed with your consolized MVS! It's indeed a solid way to enjoy the original way without forking all the ridiculous money for AES games (especially these days).
